Is there anyone out there who can please help me. I am told often that wordpress

  I am new to wordpress and have read the tutorials and bought a wordpress for dummies book. For what I want to do I find they are not much use. I have the impression that the book is about 2yrs old but can’t find an edition date anywhere. Nevertheless I have managed to negotiate the instructions to find my feet.

  I have looked for other books but reviews on them have been poor which leads me to believe there is not a brilliant book to buy/or not one to be confident with.

  I only want to do 3 things and I will be a happy bunny.

  1. How to change a background so I do not have to have the same background on each page.
  2. How to change the width of a column so I do not have the same width on each page. The template is set to about 591
  3. How to change the colour of (not the background) but the background on the text. At present it is white and I would like it a shade of transparent so as you can just about is the background underneath.

  I have not had any experience of html or css but more than willing to learn.

  1. The background is set via Appearance -> Background in your blog’s Dashboard, but it cannot be changed on a per-page basis.

  2. If you mean the content column, that’s changeable via the “Content Width” selection at Appearance -> Custom Design -> CSS in your blog’s Dashboard.

  3. That’s not directly possible, but you might want to consider a theme with already transparent post content boxes, like http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/confit/ or http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/clean-home/

  Sorry to disturb you but Ive just tried item 2 and although it appears in the little text window it does not change in the appearance. Am i doing something wrong?

  When you enter the amount, you have to hit the Ok button, then Save Stylesheet.
