Is there anywhere to report fake Gravatar accounts?

    Hi,

Quick question, is there anywhere to report fake gravatars profiles?

I did a search but I see a similar post from today has been hidden while being reviewed by WP staff. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/spam-68?replies=1#post-1338707

The gravatar profiles do not have wordpress.com sites so its not possible to use the “Report Content” feature, but the gravatar profiles have links to potentially problematic URLs on places like clickbank.net etc. so they should probably be reported.

    Thanks

    Lanceolot

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Gravatar accounts are available universally to all who wish to register one. They aren’t only for WordPress.com bloggers. See here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-way-to-spam/page/4?replies=98#post-1227284

    Hi timethief.

I understand that gravatar accounts are separate from WordPress – that’s not the issue. My question was how to report gravatar accounts that are fake and being used for nefarious reasons that could potentially be harmful to WordPress or other internet users.

All I am trying to do is help weed out the bad eggs (excuse the mixed metaphors) but to do this I need somewhere to report these accounts.

Apparently if you go to their Gravatar account, there’s a place on that page near the bottom right-hand corner to report the account.

thanks for the suggestion raincoaster but unless I am going blind, I cannot see anywhere on the gravatar profile that will allow me to report it.

Apparently it seems you can no longer report them on Gravatar. This is a serious set-back.

I think that Automattic have a real problem on their hands with all this spam and fake marketeer accounts and the subsequent problems that they cause. There are countless posts about these and similar issues and I hope that they , Automattic, can get a handle on these and implement some of the possible solutions that users have proposed.

I agree with justjennifer that this is a serious setback.
