Is there instruction for adding new catorgories or basic word press instructions

I have a word press dummies book, but it must be an old one. The direction aren’t right. It says to click buttons that aren’t there. I was hoping that there are basic instruction for using word press here some where. Right now I’m trying to set up new categories and tags. Thanks for any help you can give.

On the bottom of your Admin page you will find a link to the Learn WordPress.com blogging Tutorial prepared by Staff. http://learn.wordpress.com/

http://en.support.wordpress.com/introduction/You can add categories to your posts (not pages) and please note that until there is an published post with a categrory assigned to it there is not data that can be displayed. Those who set up test blogs frequently miss that point.
