Is there no customer service? I'm having a problem registering

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to register, submitted my credit card info, got a prompt that said, “Are you sure you want to do this?” with nowhere to answer “yes,,” and find that there is no customer service! I have to go through a public forum? That’s crazy! Am considering using another service if I have to go through a public forum for something this basic.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. What exactly are you trying to register? You have successfully registered https://elizabethbobrick.wordpress.com/ . Are you trying to buy an upgrade for that blog?

Private chat support is only available for sites with the $299 a year Business upgrade. If helping you involves the sharing of personal information then staff will contact you via email, but otherwise everyone starts in this forum to get help. This is a far cry from “no customer service” and is clearly explained in this support doc: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/

    Hi there.
As I “clearly explained” :) in my question, here’s what happened: I was trying to buy an upgrade so that the domain was registered (maybe that’s the wrong word) as elizabethbobrick.com. I gave my credit card information, hit “submit,” then got a prompt that said “Are you sure you want to do this?” Well, yes, I did. But there was nowhere to answer “yes.” I went looking for customer support. None of the info offered answered my question. After searching all over looking for an answer, I found that in order to buy a product I have to post my problem on a forum and wait on the kindness of strangers. I appreciate your going to the trouble to answer my question, but I still think that this is not a far cry from “no customer service.” What if no one had answered? (You did, again, thanks, but you didn’t seem to see the part about my submitting my credit card info and getting this prompt that I couldn’t answer.) If wordpress is selling a product, they should help you buy the product, not depend on a communal support system. We can agree to disagree about that, but I still have no answer to my question.

p.s. Just checked to see if the little elves registered my domain name, and they didn’t. A staff member should step in and find out what happened to my credit card info. If you know how to get someone to do that, I’d be very grateful to know.

  • As I “clearly explained” :) in my question, here’s what happened: I was trying to buy an upgrade so that the domain was registered (maybe that’s the wrong word) as elizabethbobrick.com.

The only thing you wrote was “I’m trying to register,”. That’s why I asked for more information – you never specified it was for a custom domain.

Did a payment go through on your credit card? If the system saved your credit card details you should be able to see it on the My Upgrades page, but if the payment didn’t go through I doubt that the system will have saved it.

I’ve tagged this for staff to follow up, but I see there’s a bit of a backlog of tagged threads, so it might take a while. While you’re waiting (and provided a payment hasn’t already gone through on your card), try clearing your browser cache and then try registering the domain again. Otherwise, please be patient while waiting for staff to respond.

  • Sorry, forgot to post the link to the support doc on checking/updating credit card details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-credit-card-details/

Thanks. WordPress is lucky to have volunteers like you to help people buy their products!

  • Ha! Yes :)

Best not to post here anymore until they do, as threads are answered based on the timestamp of the last post so additional posts will move your thread back in the queue. I hope they don’t take too long responding to this thread.

Thanks for the heads up. I tried what you suggested – no luck – ah well.
If I don’t hear from anybody within a reasonable time, I’ll cancel my credit card info and try another service. :(
I appreciate your sharing your expertise!

    Hi!

I’m here. Happy to move this to private email if you would like as well.

I don’t currently see any upgrades purchased on your site here:

    https://elizabethbobrick.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

Just to confirm, you do see a charge on your bank account. Is that correct? It doesn’t look like the domain is actually registered just yet according to the public record here:

Can you try following these instructions one more time?

    Register a New Domain

Hi, Jeremy – Here's what happened: I was trying to register a domain name and buy an upgrade to elizabethbobrick.com, with personal information privacy. The total came to $26.00. I filled in my credit card info, hit submit, got a new page with a prompt that said, “Are you sure you want to do this?” There was no place I could see to say “yes.” I was reluctant to submit a second order until I could figure out what had happened. I couldn't find any help on the website for my question, hence my entry into the forum. I'd like to know if the $26 was actually charged to my account. If it was, I'd like to cancel. I'd be very grateful for your help with this, and I hope I don't have to go back on the forum to find out how to cancel if necessary. :)
    thanks!

Thanks for clarifying! I don’t see a charge anywhere on your account. I also don’t see the domain elizabethbobrick.com registered at WordPress.com so it looks like this registration failed for some reason or another. I’m not 100% sure what happened, but from our side, it does not look like you were charged. Please let me know if your bank statement indicates otherwise. Did you want to try to register the domain again?

Jeremy, thanks for looking into this and for the info. I've registered the domain elsewhere, and I will let you know if I find a charge.
