is there something wrong with comments?

A reader would like to leave a comment on my blog, but says that WordPress “hates” him :-). I guess he tried three other times to leave comments (besides the ones you see) but they wouldn’t go through. He’s a friend of mine, so I’d be surprised if he left anything filter-worthy. He claims they were just compliments to the poster.
Also, it seems odd that there are no other comments for this thread .Typically, we get a fair amount of comments; we have a guest blogger this week and he’s pretty popular among the blogesphere, so it’s weird that he’s recieve no other comments beyond mine and the said, disgruntled poster.

As long as you un-spam him Akismet should learn and things should go smoothly next time. I think they just tightened up on things, so this will be happening for a couple of days.

Really depends on what they’re posting and from where they are posting from. Yesterday we had some here posting from Earthlink which is a fairly known problem area on the net. Not sure if Akismet calls it one but I know I have large blocks of it blocked from my own boxes at the router levels as they sell out leased lines directly to known spammers.
