Is there way to have blog show "last updated" instead of "published" date

    Hello:
Wordpress.com does not allow the addition of plugins, but I am wondering if there is a built-in way of having my blog automatically show the “last updated” date instead of the “published” date.
I did figure out how to go back and update the published date as I update my blog.
However, it would be easier if there were some way of having “Last updated” show instead of “published” as that more realistically characterizes the information.

If more current information arises (e.g. about travel to a specific place) than the site can be updated to reflect that, thus keeping it current. Any suggestions (short of changing to WordPress.org) much appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    No there is not.

Thank you–again. I appreciate the help you are providing.
I thought I was missing something.
Knowing this, I will change the date manually whenever I provide an update.

I put a note in the Post somewhere “UPDATED: February 19, 2014″ – then a note what was updated

Note, I think that changing the date on a Post will change the address of the Post which will give a Page Not Found 404 error from search engines – so the new info will be hard to find.

Put a Text or Links Widget in the sidebar – “Recently Updated” with the last 4 or whatever Posts that have been updated with links

Thank you. I will look into that and also see what happens in terms of search engines if I modify the Post dates.

Right now I have not made the sight searchable since it is still a work in progress so perhaps it will not affect it this time. But I may still make updates on this and future accounts so that is helpful information.

Don’t do it! Don’t ever edit datestamps on posts. The result is known and it’s not a good one. Read this > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/08/05/avoid-creating-404-pages/

Edit post content only – not the datestamp.
Create a new post annoucning the updates and backlink to older post with the now updated content for the best SEO results.

    I like that idea too.

@tt and auxclass- Adding “Last updated” at the top of an existing post is my standard practice on the Gallery FAQ and Gallery – A Demo Site. It does seem to help with the search engines.

    Aside/
If I had to post an entire history of what was updated in the Gallery FAQ, no one would bother reading it because the original post was published in 2008. We’ve come a long way, baby. :)
