I was looking for a website. However, the more I look at WordPress, it looks more like a blog site than a website. Can you clarify this for me.

WordPress.com software is blogging software. However, we can choose to use it in such a manner that it resembles a website.
    (1) A website is a noticeboard communication style. A blog is designed for interactive communication.

    (2) Blogs publish current news in posts with date and time stamps, most websites do not. The information most websites provide is static, rarely updated, and the sites are often poorly maintained.

    (3) Blogs have RSS feeds, websites ALONE do not.

    (4) Websites do have PageRanks; blogs do.

If you tell us what exactly what you want to achieve we can help you to structure your free hosted wordpress.com blog to achieve a web site appearance.

Snap! I see a missing word above. This is the way (4) ought to have read:

    (4) Websites do NOT have PageRanks; blogs do.

I think the first #4 was right. Websites and blogs can both have PageRank–if we’re talking about the same thing that is. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank )

    Yes and no … :)
We have newbie bloggers who are using a static page structure to create mock websites, rather than using the post basedblog structure where Google juice flows.

As static Pages cannot be assigned tags and categories, and as they sit outside the blog structure, and as these mock website frequently have a static front page, and as the majority of Google juice flows to posts on the front page of a true blog, the result of structuring a mock web site based on static Pages can be that achieving a PageRank is very difficult, particularly for newbies.
