Is this ethical? (idea on building traffic for my new site…unsure if it's ok.

    Hello, and apologies if this isn’t the proper subforum, or even site, to ask this question; if so, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

    I’m trying to build a hobbyist site, that I want to be a small ‘forum’ / bulletin board / community, wherein people discuss/talk on random subjects related to my hobby. However, after I create my site, and put some articles up, I have no idea how to get any initial ‘group’ on my site – who’s going to come discuss on a board w/o anyone else discussing things?
    Enter my idea: upon creating my site, I would post under a few different handles/usernames on my comments, to catalyze/initiate discussion.
    I’m ONLY thinking of doing this to kick-start / launch things, and am really unsure how I feel on this, as I’m wholly against people who do this on the same forums and are dishonest ie they’ll back themselves up or whatever w/ multiple accounts. I’m not trying to be shady, but I guess the idea of me creating several ‘sockpuppet’ type users to get my site’s first topics off the ground and running/discussed, really isn’t so bad..

    I really hope to hear others’ thoughts on this, as I’m very unsure about it. I’m not thrilled at the idea, but I just cannot imagine how else to get a message board up and running if there’s not, say, 10-15 threads up on it that have active discussion. Once there, it’d be pointless to keep these sockpuppets running, I just need to initiate discussion on a virgin site, if that makes sense!

    There no message boards, forums or wikis that you can embed into a free hosted WordPress.com blog.

    NOTE: It takes a critical mass of followers to enliven any blog and keep it vibrant. Only a blog with a large active readership base will populate any forum your create on the internet and link to from your blog.
