Is this site difficult to use or is it just me?
-
I spent two hours going through the support pages and videos as well as looking at Youtube videos.
The youtube videos are for self hosted WordPress.org installs. The vast and overwhelming amount of information on the internet is for self-hosted WordPress.org installs. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and do not run on exactly the same software. WordPress.com is a wpMU WordPress multiuser blogging platform.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/I have tried to set up a static Home page and a separate Post page. Both were created, but widgets stopped working when I deleted the About page thinking it might be blocking the Posts page. All posts showing up on the Home page and again, the widgets don’t show.
There is only one main page for posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front pageWhich do you choose? It’s one or the other. If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
The most common misunderstanding is bloggers creating static Pages that do not automatically update and thinking that they will when they cannot and will not. Only dynamic pages (Archives, Categories, Tags) created by the software will automatically update when we publish posts.
1. Delete any static pages you created to function as “subjects” or “topics” pages.
2. We organize our blogs by assigning Categories and/or Tags to Posts (not pages). Assign Categories and/or Tags to your Posts (not pages).

http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/tags/3. Create a custom menu
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/4. Add the dynamic Categories and/or Tags pages into your custom menu as menu items.
