Is this theme compatible with WordPress.com?

  I found a theme that I would like to purchase but I’m not sure if it will work with my WordPress.com site. The theme says the software is compatible with WordPress 3.9, but is that what I have here? Or will I need to download WordPress.org to be able to use it?

  This is wordpress.com. It is completely separate and different from wordpress.org. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  You will note that custom themes are one of the things not available on the .com platform, so yes, to use that theme you’ll have to have a wordpress.org blog. Keep in mind that will mean you’ll have to arrange for your own hosting and all the maintenance of the blog will be your responsibility, much more than simply downloading the software, while at wordpress.com those things are provided to us for free.
