Is transferring my domain name to wordpress.com the best option?

  I am using wordpress.com to have a play setting up a website. I am not sure if this is the best platform and need to develop confidence first. I have an existing domain name, so is it best to transfer it or wait? If I wait what does that mean down the track if I go with wordpress.com?
