  Hi All and Thanks in advance. I’m not yet very familiar with WordPress but open to learning it if it can do what I need.

  I’m looking to build a website (or blog that I can incorporate into a website) where authors can post their short stories. Those stories would then managed by some sort of CMS which could present the stories by category (most recent, random, by genre, by author, etc). The stories could also be ‘commented on’ and ‘voted on’ (for popularity) or rated as to how good they are.

  Would WordPress be a good means to accomplish this? If so would I be looking for the right ‘template’ to do this or does it use ‘plug ins’ or ‘modules’? What is the general approach? If you can get me pointed in the right direction I will figure out the particulars.

  I recommend that you hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.ORG install. WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.
