Actually, I can report that I am now in Saudi Arabia and (as I suspected) I can read, but not edit or write my blog.

Tor is a good idea. Thanks. The position in Saudi Arabia is that editing is blocked … most of the time. There are few minutes every hour when you can slip through the firewall. I’m not sure whether this is a minor concession or just inefficiency. I remember the same situation here several years ago.

Try Post By email then, or possibly an offline blog editor like Blogdesk. And yes, officially it’s blocked there, same as in China. There are ways around that. Tor is a good one, but there are lots of proxies you can use: Anonymous has a list of them.

Everyone I know in Saudi Arabia has satellite internet that doesn’t go through KACST’s censors. It’s technically illegal, but very common, and I’ve never heard of a Westerner being punished for it. You might want to consider doing that.

Good idea! And I recall someone saying the universities don’t lock WP.com out of their connections.
