Is WordPress my new host?
-
I mapped a domain that I already own and is being hosted by Name.com to my WordPress site. Do I need to switch hosts, or cancel my Name.com hosting contract? (As a Premium subscriber, is WordPress hosting my site, now, so I do not need a host for what was just a domain name with no site attached?) Thanks. I also own about dozen other names. Can I map them all to my WordPress site?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
If you mapped your domain to WordPress.com, you can think of WordPress.com as your host in that we host and store all of your content and information. So, if you have a hosting plan with Name.com, you’ll definitely want to cancel that as WordPress.com is your host.
However, please note that your domain registration and site hosting are two separate things. You’ll want to keep the domain registration intact at Name.com. That’s your registrar. It’s responsible for keeping your domain records and making sure no one else registers your domain. You’ll need to renew your domain there each year in order for it to continue to work. Does that make sense?
If you’d like to map more domains to WordPress.com, you can definitely do that. If you would like these domains to be associated with different blogs, you’ll need to add blogs to your account following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/#adding-new-blog-to-an-existing-account
The, you can map each domain to the respective blog following the instructions here:

Please let me know if you run into any trouble or have any additional questions!

Fantastic and very clear. Here is another question: When my domain(s) come up for renewal, can WordPress become my new registrar? Thanks.

Currently, we don’t accept incoming transfers from other registrars, so you can’t transfer a domain registration that you’ve purchased elsewhere.
The only option would be to cancel the registration at your registrar (or fail to renew it) and attempt to register the domain at WordPress.com when it becomes available again. However, this is a bit risky as someone else may register your domain in the meantime, which would mean you would lose your domain potentially for good.
The better option at this point would be to keep your domain registered elsewhere and continue to map it to WordPress.com. Does that make sense?
