Is WordPress right for my (specific) project
-
First-time caller, long-time user.
I’ve had a very specific project land at my door, and I’m not sure if it would be best in WordPress, or not.
Without going into details, it’s a small market local news organization. They’re currently Joomla. The site needs a refresh, and the Joomla is not only out-of-date, it’s obsolete.
I’ve been doing a lot in Joomla the last couple of years, and I really love it, especially compared to Joomla.
That being said, here’s the issue: The current Joomla has 50,000+ articles. It’s huge. Nearly every one has an image or two. The site averages about a half-million unique visitors every month, and 8-12,000 page views a day. Like I said, it’s small market.
I know this is a very opinion-driven question. Everyone and their dog will have a different feeling on this, but I’m just wanting to make sure that WordPress can support such an animal.
Details: The site would be starting basically from scratch, and I’d use the old site as an archive for the next two years until it’s data can be lopped off. It’ll be on a good, dedicated server with 32GB of memory. That’s overkill, but when we have big news stories, the current server is known for going down faster than Monica.
Thanks in advance.

I believe WordPress would happily support that animal and animal would fall in love with WordPress.
Did a website for a client with over 200,000 listings and its in senses since last couple of years with muscles growing with time.
