Is WordPress the right medium for what I wish to do? I can't make it work for me

  Please help:
  I am not sure that I have chosen the right medium with WordPress. It looks slick and nice, but I don’t seem to understand how to use it for my purpose. I am a painter and a writer and I would like to use this website to show my art (paintings and poetry). I want to start by showing existing production and then update when I finish something new.

  So far I have created a menu and 4 categories: Background – Paintings – Poetry – Photography, that appears in the top bar. Now I want to fill each category with pages of graphical files (jpeg/png) for the categories Paintings and Photography and of text files (PDF) for the category poetry. What I mean is that if you click for instance on paintings then you get down to a number of sub-categories (?) and when you click on one sub-category then you are presented with the files arranged in the order I would then choose, each accompanied by a brief comment.

  I have tried evry way I can think about and can’t seem to be able to get this result. Actually I have reached the point where I wonder if what I would like to do is at all possible with WordPress or if I should look for something else. I would like to stay with WordPress, because I like the way it looks and the possibilities it has. However, I am not a blogger that will my life story to the world every day. I just want to create a showcase that will be somehow dynamic when new works are produced, but no more than that.

  Hi Michel,

  I’d suggest checking out these two pages:

  You can add media (PDF, PNG, JPEG) to both Pages and Posts, which can then be nested in Categories and Sub-Categories. I definitely think WordPress can do what you want it to, it’s just a matter of a little bit of trial and error, and a bit of time spent on the support documents.

  Also note that certain themes will be better suited for what you’re trying to do! For example, Photography themes will often make it very easy to post galleries and picture like you are describing.

  Hi,
  Many thanks for your quick response. I’ll check your suggestions right away and hope to find the way to do what I want. The theme I have chosen so far is the one called Twenty Eleven because I liked the clean look, but perhaps I should have a look at the photography themes as you suggest. Never too old to learn new tricks :-)
