Is WordPress the right solution for me?
-
Hi all,
I’m just beginning a search for a platform solution for a site I’m looking to build.
The site would have public-facing pages, a blog, and an option to purchase a premium membership. If a user purchases a premium membership, they would have the ability to log into the site, use a proprietary tool once, and then be sent to a secure site that contains unique content.
Can I use WordPress to build this out? And if so, how might you suggest I structure the site to create these discreet sections of content? Thank you in advance!

To do what you want to do requires paid web hosting http://wordpress.org/hosting and setting up a wordpress.org software install. http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. You are confusing WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM. For that type of functionality (memberships, etc.) you’d need a self-hosted site running on a paid web hosting service.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ Get hosting here http://wordpress.ORG/hosting/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
Resetting your WordPress.ORG password http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -
Ok, I know that… I’m just wondering if wordpress (.org or .net) can support this pay-to-access functionality? Thanks

The extension on the domain name is irrelevant. WordPress.COM hosted blogs cannot support the functionality you specify. You need to ask wordpress.ORG software questions on the WordPress.ORG support forums.
