Issue adding Link to a Page

Hey all,
I’ve been trying to “convert” my blog into the “Write-a-book” option outlined here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/ – the steps are simple enough and it suits my project quite nicely. However, when I edit a post or a page, the option of adding a link is not available (the little link/unlink buttons show as being unavailable and the html won’t work either). My theme is Connections by http://www.vanillamist.com. I have poured over both support and the forums, but I apologize if this has been answered before – without creating a blogroll in the sidebar, can you help or explain why I can’t create an index ON the homepage out of links?

First write the text you want to link, highlight it and the link/unlink button should appear.

Welcome. In a user-to-user support forum, someone’s awake and online almost all the time. :) Hope that works for you. Somehow I recall it working differently than described in that support doc.

It was perfect! I’m on my way – being a hardcore luddite, I’d never imagined I’d feel this good and in-control about developing a blog. You can be so creative! Very rewarding.
