issue changing email address

I need to change the email address associated with our company wordpress account but it’s saying the email address is already in use. There is no other wordpress account with the email I am trying to use. It’s my work email address and I have not created any wordpress accounts with that email. Ultimately I need to find a way to ensure that anytime there is a comment, it goes to my email address. We’re getting comment notification emails to people who no longer work here. Can someone let me know how to update the email address, and ensure all comment notifications are sent to me as well?
