Issue in Search Form (Koi Theme)

Hello,
I recently changed my blog’s theme to Koi (a very beautiful theme by N. Design). The problem is that when I click on the Search textbox, the pre-written “Search” does not disappear (but it should). So I always have to first delete the word “Search” and then enter my keyword.Most probably it’s a JavaScript problem. I have tried it on various latest browsers – Chrome, Firefox, Opera (with JS active).
Same problem is on the page https://koidemo.wordpress.com/
I have used this theme in the past but there was no such error.
Please look into this.

Thanks for reporting this issue. I’ve also encountered the issue, though I hadn’t noticed that it only affects certain themes. Koi has been virtually the only theme used on my primary site for the past several years. I would like to see the search box issue described so well by wallofwonders fixed.Frequently, I have noticed that visitors who attempt a valid search, using one of the multiple search boxes I keep in the header or sidebar areas, without first deleting every character of the default “Search…” text in the box, will invariably obtain a failed search result.

I have been able to replicate this and reported it to our team team. The reason why you are seeing “search..” in the field is that is is currently set as the value in the HTML.
This is because this theme pre-dates the HTML5 placeholder tag. As the tag has support in all modern browsers I have recommended we update the theme to use that tag.
