Issue regarding domain transfer from Wix
-
I have a website at Wix.com where I have already purchased a domain. Now, I want to transfer it to WordPress.org but I cannot find any option on the same. When I tried to do it with WordPress.com, I was asked to upgrade my plan.
Is it necessary to upgrade my plan for domain transfer and how can I do it with WordPress.org and not WordPress.com.
Please help -
Hi @ishaanrathi, you would need a paid plan for a domain transfer, yes.
You’d be welcome to transfer the site content itself, though, then add the domain when everything’s ready.
Here’s how to transfer your content over:

Can I transfer my domain to wordpress.org instead of wordpress.com
I think .org would be more beneficial for me instead of .com
Also, if I tranfer my domain to .com then would it take extra charges or is it free from both the sides. -
WordPress.org is not a domain or hosting provider. That is just the website where the WordPress community collaborates on the open source WordPress software. So you cannot transfer a domain there.
If you want to use that version of WordPress, you’ll need to sign up for a hosting plan at a hosting provider like Bluehost or Pressable, and then transfer your domain to that hosting provider (Pressable is not a domain provider, though, so you can’t transfer a domain to them).
Also, if I tranfer my domain to .com then would it take extra charges or is it free from both the sides.
Transferring a domain to WordPress.com requires that you upgrade to one of our paid plans, but the transfer itself does not cost extra, and also includes one renewal of the domain that happens immediately once the transfer completes. The next time your domain comes due for renewal that will cost extra on top of the plan.
As long as your domain is not currently expired, it should not cost you anything on Wix’s end to transfer it away from them, but you’ll need to ask them directly about that.
