Issue with captions and abbreviation on Lovecraft

  • Unknown's avatar

I have just started playing around with the Lovecraft theme, and am having a problem with the captions.

When I am adding a caption in edit mode, it looks like a different font, and is centred under the picture.

But, when I publish, the caption is left aligned, and the font is the same as the regular text

Plus, when the posts are abbreviated for the home page, all of the text blocks run into each other.
Look at Post 3 on the home page, then click into it, and you’ll see the problem.

  • Hi there!

I can see you have just changed the editor so I’m not sure if things were changed because of that, however, the caption you have added is just another paragraph line. If you wish to keep using the Classic editor, to add a caption, you’ll want to click on the little pencil icon to edit the image and add the caption there. Have a look at this screenshot to understand better what I mean: https://cld.wthms.co/p9NbxC

If you’d like to use the Block editor, you’d add the caption like this:

    Image Block

Plus, when the posts are abbreviated for the home page, all of the text blocks run into each other.

I do not see this on your homepage, everything seems to display correctly on my end. Would you mind adding a screenshot to your media library so that we can understand better what you see?

    Thanks!

Hi, thanks for getting back so quickly. I have fiddled around to try to follow your suggestions, but still get the same issues, whether I use the classic editor or the block thing. I have tried using the WP app (I am on my iPad) but doesn’t seem to get much better.

I have added screen shots of what it looks like on my iPad Safari browser (both post and home page) and also what it looks like when I am in editor. It also has the same problems on Chrome browser on my iPAd.

    Cheers, Greg C

  • Thanks for the screenshots, I see now what you meant about the blocks running into each other on the homepage.

This is actually an expected behavior, however, you can control the post excerpts and only display what you want by adding manual excerpts. Here are the instructions:

    Excerpts

As for the captions, it seems that your theme, Lovecraft, displays them this way so there’s nothing that can be done about it unless you’re open to changing themes.

Ok, thanks. I don’t really mind moving to another theme. I’ll have a look, but if you could suggest a couple, that would be great – I didn’t see any others last time I looked. I want something simple, pretty much like Lovecraft – one page with blog posts, a couple of other pages I can have static content, and some widgets.

    Cheers, Greg C

  • Hi Greg,

All of our newest themes have a simple look and fully support the Block editor. You can try Redhill, Hever, or Morden as those are closer to how Lovecraft looks.
