Issue with links when new project is published on social media sites
-
I am writing on behalf of my client who has noticed a problem when publishing a new photo gallery (project). The link that is published within her social media accounts is incorrect and if visitors click on the link they are taken to an “oops” page.
It seems that the link has the date included in the URL instead of ‘portfolio’. There is, therefore, a mismatch and an error occurs. I believe this is something that requires fixing at your end.
Hope someone can help. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, Is this for the above site or for a different WordPressdotcom site? If different, please give us the site address.
Can you give us an example of the correct link and that same link as it appears in social media? Also how is it being publicized to social media?
-
Hi Yes, it is for the above site.
An example would be this new gallery pageand you can see how it appears in the Twitter feed (top item) if you look in the righthand column on this About page

Hi @ruthgrindrod,
What are you using to push the portfolio to Twitter? Is it Publicize by Jetpack, or another plugin or method?
-
I assume it is Publicize by Jetpack. It is done via the Sharing/Publicize Your Posts menu item.
-
It looks like the most recent project in the Twitter timeline is from two days ago. There was a known issue with Publicize and Twitter, but it was resolved as of yesterday.
Can you please try publishing another project and let us know if it’s still happening?
-
@ruthgrindrod – thanks for providing that example and I see what you mean. I’ve gone ahead and tagged this for Staff to have a look at. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.
Also, if you have any WordPressdotcom upgrade plan, you are also able to contact Support directly via the contact form at https://wordpress.com/help/contact for assistance with this issue. You do need to be logged in with the username account that purchased the upgrade.

Just thinking out loud, but looking at that again, is there any chance that it was first published accidentally as a post?
To the best of my recollection, portfolio projects don’t get publicized.
-
I tested this using the same theme, and the portfolio did get pushed to Twitter using Publicize. The same options for sharing showed up in the Project:Settings options.
-
No problem!
Here’s a screenshot of what I did, just to make sure we’re all talking about the same thing: https://cloudup.com/cSNRve3kE3a

Thanks @jesscga – I can’t see the cloudup link, but I’m checking on this.
@ruthgrindrod, I confirmed that these do indeed publish out with a date in the URL, however that date should automatically redirect to the correct portfolio page.
It’s looking like this portfolio item originally had this link:
https://ruthgrindrodlandscapephotography.co.uk/2017/07/28/donegal-ireland/Did you re-publicize it intentionally?
-
It looks like you have a private ticket open about this as well. We’ll close the duplicate threads so we can focus our efforts in one place. Cheers :)
