Issue with people seeing content

  • Unknown's avatar

On our ‘meet the team’ page we have images of our staff and volunteers. I can see this page along with other admin users but no one else can see this. I have checked the permissions for the page and it says it is set for ‘public’ viewing.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your complete site is set to private so only approved users can visit your site.

  • Unknown's avatar

we understand that but our users cannot see this page

  • Unknown's avatar

Of course, that’s because your entire site is set to private, https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/

i don’t understand what you mean. I know our site is private and only accessible to the users we set up. The users we have set up to see our site cannot see certain functions?

Even on a Private site, if your invited users are logged in to the site, they should be able to see that page if you’ve published it as Public and not Private. https://wordpress.com/support/post-and-page-visibility/

Let’s get some help from Staff here; they have x-ray glasses and can see what is going on.

  • Hi there,

I checked and the page is indeed set to public. Are there no invited users able to view the page – or are there particular users who have reached out with the issue? Also, they are able to view all other pages on the site that are public?

If you can send me a few of the emails or usernames of users who should be able to see the page but currently can’t? Feel free to share here as the emails will be redacted and only staff will be able to view them.

To note, there are a few users who haven’t accepted their invites, and I noticed there are three versions of the Meet the Team page. Let me know how we can further assist. Thanks!

Hi there, I haven’t asked each individual user but I had one member report the issue so I reached out to another member to see if they could see it and they had the same issue. However, when I asked another admin user they said they could see it so I am not sure if only admin users can see this. They can see all other pages on the website. For the meet the team page all they can see is the headings no images.

The users that I know are having issues are:

    @stevenagevolunteers

and another for Ryann Hansen but I could not see his account listed under users

  • Hello there,

    I can’t see that @stevenagevolunteers is a user on castevenage.com.

In order for them to see that content, they would need to be added as per these steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

    I hope this helps.

Hi, but it doesn’t make sense as this user is already a ‘follower’ and can view all other pages just not this one?

Hi, but it doesn’t make sense as this user is already a ‘follower’ and can view all other pages just not this one?

It looks like stevenagevolunteers is set to be a Viewer on the site, not a Follower. Sorry for the confusion.

I logged into their account and can you confirm that this is what they see when they visit the “meet the team” page?

If so, there seems to be 403 Forbidden errors on your media files, which is why they’re not seeing the content on that page – images are broken on other pages as well, but there’s text content to go with it.

If you can confirm that’s the issue, we’ll need to dig into this a bit further.

If that’s not the issue, could you ask them to take a screenshot of the page in question so we can get a better idea of the issue? If they’re not familiar with how to take a screenshot, this support document will help explain how to make one:

    Take a Screenshot

Then, they can use a service like Snipboard.io to upload the screenshot and then share the image link from that service here and we’ll take a closer look.

    Thanks!

Hi, so Ryann Hansen can now view the page even though I did not make any changes. The Stevenage volunteers account still cannot see the images

Can you let us know what their WordPress.com username is? We aren’t able to find people by name, so having their username would be helpful. Thanks!

The Stevenage volunteers account still cannot see the images

Can you confirm that that is the problem they’re having – not that they can’t access your page but that images are broken for them on the site? Once we have that confirmed, we’ll be better able to troubleshoot.

    Thank you!

  • Unknown's avatar

yes, images are broken for them on the site

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for that confirmation.

We suspect this could be a new known issues on our end.

Are you able to tell us what browser is in use when the images are broken.

Also, are you able to make a view an administrator (or a different role to viewer) and confirm if the issue is still taking place please?

    Many thanks in advance.

  • Unknown's avatar

sorry can you please explain what you’d like me to do? I don’t understand what you mean as view?

They could be using Chrome or Firefox

  • Hi there,

We’re asking if you can view the page as an administrator or other types of roles like author or editor. We’re suspecting something may be preventing the viewer role in particular from being able to view the page.

Let us know and we’ll continue to dig deeper into this issue.

    Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

yes, i as an administrator can see the images along with my other colleagues who are administrators. It appears to be other people who can’t

  • Thank you.

Can you provide the username or email of one of the Stevenage volunteers that is currently unable to view the page content? We want to take a look at their account. Also, I know you mentioned that they may be using Firefox or Chrome when attempting to view the page – if you can verify which browser they have been using and if they have tried to view a different browser, that would go a long way in helping us pinpoint the issue.

    Thanks again.
