Issue with Secondary Domain (mysite.wordpress.com) confusing uploaded file URL's
-
I started building my site on the mysite.wordpress.com domain provided. I then decided to map a domain I purchased on GoDaddy to the site. I can now go to mysite.com and it displays properly but my WP dashboard still shows up on mysite.wordpress.com/wp-admin instead of mysite.com/wp-admin. This alone would not be a problem except that when I upload media the associated URL contains mysite.wordpress.com. I want it to show mysite.com/filename instead.
Blog url: http://smartlydotcom.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’m afraid there isn’t a way to display your custom domain when managing your blog, and you’ll need to use your WordPress.com blog address for that.
Aside from your media files, your visitors will still see your custom domain.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Well can I change my wordpress blog name then? This doesn’t make any sense. I just want to be able to link to this PDF and have the URL read http://www.frankvtaylor.com/wp-content/visual_resume.pdf
-
Unfortunately, that is not possible.
To ensure document availability and download speed, they are actually hosted on entirely separate servers and linked to your WordPress.com blog name. There is no way to map a domain to these.

I am a little confused I guess because my company’s site (also built on WP, but by someone else) does not have this problem. The domain is http://www.restinchairs.com and when you open an uploaded PDF like this
the URL shows the same domain and does not include .wordpress at all. Why is this? -
That is not a WordPress.com blog, it’s a self-hosted WordPress.org blog.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

Oh man, ok didn’t know that. Well for the time being, is there anyway to edit the .wordpress URL so it is at least displaying as frankvtaylor.wordpress.com/wp-content… for uploaded files?
-
the problem is that I have two blogs under this same username and I accidentally purchased the $99 bundle on the wrong one (smartlydotcom.wordpress.com instead of frankvtaylor.wordpress.com). When I realized that, I just put the content that was intended for the frankvtaylor site on smartlydotcom.wordpress.com since it had the upgrade and I figured it wouldn’t matter when I mapped the frankvtaylor.com domain to it…

No, the file URL cannot be changed.
If you’d like to move everything back to frankvtaylor.wordpress.com, I can transfer the bundle and domain mapping to that blog for you. I recommend transferring the content first though.
-
Thanks, I have transfered the content. If you could transfer the bundle and domain mapping from smartlydotcom.wordpress.com to frankvtaylor.wordpress.com that would be great!
-
Hi Frank,
I’ve moved the value bundle and domain mapping to http://frankvtaylor.wordpress.com/ as you’ve requested.
I hope this helps! :-)
