Issue with URL
-
I created a wordpress.com account yesterday only to realize that in order for me to ‘customize & design’ my blog it needed to be self hosted. I signed up with Bluehost and installed wordpress and now I have 2 different URLs for some reason. One from bluehost and one that I registered and paid for through wordpress.com. It’s showing 2 different pages as well and as far as I know I am not registered with wordpress.org. One URL is showing my custom designed blog page and the URL that is registered and paid for is showing the blog page that I don’t want it to show. All I want is for my url that is paid for to direct me to my customized blog site that is hosted through bluehost. Please advise. I am a new blogger that wants to start her blog and this small issue is causing a big headache!

You just need to change the nameservers of your purchased domain to point to bluehost. These instructions will show you how to do that:
Take a look through that page and let me know if you have any further questions. I’ll be happy to help.

I believe I did so but for some reason they keep changing back to WordPress even after I’ve saved them?
-
Also, I just registered the domain yesterday. Does this mean I will have to wait 60 days to be Able to transfer the domain name?

What are you trying to change them to?

Yes. ICANN rules stipulate that you must wait 60 days to transfer a newly registered domain to a new registrar.

I’m changing them to Bluehost.
& that’s a bummer. I’m looking to launch my blog soon. Is there any way around this? I did see some thing about having 2 days to cancel the domain from when you paid? Is this correct? If I do this would I be able to re-buy the domain and have it automatically linked to my self hosted blog site? -
Change the name servers and all will be well – no need to transfer the registration – in fact if you cancel the registration you might never get the URL back – squatters might buy the canceled URL and hold it hostage

Okay. I’ve changed the name servers to Bluehost. I’ve done this already yesterday & whenever I go back to check (even when saved) it doesn’t say bluehost it goes back to the wordpress name servers? Is this what it’s supposed to do? Is there anything else that I need to do once I’ve changed the name servers?

I am seeing http://marinalorraine.com/ point correctly to your bluehost site.
It can take 24-48 hours for domain/DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. It typically happens faster than that, but it really depends on your ISPs update frequency. If you are still not seeing the correct site appear after 48 hours has elapsed, please contact me again.
Also, do let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Perfect! I just checked as well and it’s directing me to the correct site! :) Thanks so much for your help! I will contact you again if I need anything else!

This is totally off topic but would you be able to help with me with my Instagram Widget? When I first launched my site it was working perfectly fine, but now it just says No Images found?
-
I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble. However, http://marinalorraine.com/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, which we really can’t help with.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation and support sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at http://codex.wordpress.org/ and http://wordpress.org/support/
-
As a note, I know you are aware that there is a difference between .org and .com, but it is important to leave that sort of info in there for anyone else reading this thread.

No problem. Thank you for clarifying.
For some reason I’m still having trouble with the URL. I type in marinalorraine.com which takes me to my homepage fine but if you start peeking around my site and go to the About tab or click on one of my categories it changes the URL to the weird numbered one? How do I get my URL to stay consistent when searching around my site and stay saying marinalorraine.com the entire time?

That is something you are going to have to talk to your webhost about. It has to do with your site itself and not the domain registration.
