Issues changing Gravatar
-
I’m currently getting an issue with Gravatar that prevents me from changing my profile picture.
What keeps happening is that after I have confirmed the crop for my new profile image, it sends me back to the page that adds new emails and uploads a new picture, instead of going through with the upload and taking me to the page where it asks me to assign a maturity level to the image.
Maybe my Gravatar account isn’t activated, and so cannot change profile picture?
Following the Gravatar FAQ, I have reset my WordPress password to try and trigger the activation email and added all relevant addresses to my email’s whitelist, but I didn’t get one.
I read this page on Gmail issues https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/gmail-issues/
– perhaps it’s because my email contains a period, but that’s not something I can easily work around. How can I fix this?

Your account is activated, so it’s not that. It might be a browser problem. Have you tried clearing the browser cache and cookies yet? Also try logging in in a private browsing window and see if that makes any difference.

Hey kokkieh, thanks for getting back to me.
I’ve just now tried it – cleared all internet history in Firefox, restarted Firefox, tried again. No luck. Tried using Firefox private browsing, no luck. I also downloaded and installed Opera from fresh to try – also no luck.
Still keep being sent to the same page about adding new emails and uploading a new picture.

I just tried uploading a new image to my account and it worked without any problems, so the issue is not with the site.
You say you cleared history in FF. Did you delete all cookies? That’s not the same thing as clearing the history. You can find instructions for clearing cookies in Firefox here:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored
Can you tell me what version of Firefox you’re using? And on what type of device?
Can you please try the same steps outlined above.

Sorry about the bad phrasing – I meant that I cleared all browsing data – my cache, cookies, everything.
On my Windows 10 PC, I tried using Firefox 49.0.1, Chrome 53.0.etc, and Opera (newest). None of them worked.
I tried yesterday using the same version of Firefox on Mac OS X El Capitan, and that didn’t work either, following exactly the same steps.
Out of sheer desperation, I tried again just now, again using the same steps, and for some odd reason it did go through.
No idea why.

Thanks for clarifying, and for letting me know it worked in the end. It sounds like it might be a glitch with the site – I’m afraid there are a few of those, and we’re working on it :)

I’ve got the same issue on Google Chrome during the last past month. It’s definitely not a cache issue, clearing browser data / using incognito mode doesn’t help.

Thanks for your time kokkieh :)
islandjay & benoitq – I hope you guys aren’t experiencing this issue anymore; it sure is inconvenient. I guess the only half-solution at the moment is to keep trying periodically.
