Issues Creating Domain Name
-
Cancel transaction/Domain creation
Hello,
Within the last hour I have tried to purchase the domain name: giveitup.org
When following the steps to create the domain it appeared on the screen in this form ‘.org’ – upon creation it now reads givingitupdotorg.wordpress.com – not what I thought I had purchased at all! If I had known this I would sought a free or better domain name.
On top of this, the page loaded so slowly, and in fact appeared frozen for several minutes. So long that I repeated the sign up process 2-3 times. I then found I had two blogs. Does this mean I have paid twice? Please can I cancel this whole transaction/delete both domains/blogs and start from scratch?
Also, s ‘givingitup.org’ a possible name? I found the the special options for blog endings very misleading – it actually appeared to read as I have stated above with .org in a blue box.
I hope to hear from you soon regarding this issue,
Regards,

This URL was provided by the software because you did NOT register a .wordpress.com blog to map from to a domain URL.
Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
All About Domains http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL. Then you must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered the .wordpress.com blog you want to map form to the domain URL to purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog at > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here if you already own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

giveitup.org – is not a domain name you can register – it has been registered since 2000 and seems to be parked by a squatter.
Do a whois or try visiting a domain name before registering it to save troubles

Giveitup.org is already registered and appears to belong to a church.
http://givingitupdotorg.wordpress.com/ is a free URL.
Go to your Upgrades page and see if you have the custom domain there, processed. If you don’t, no harm no foul. If you do, ask for a refund.
Before you can buy a custom domain, you must first have a free, non-custom domain here.
-
And please take care not to make typos in domain names. You could be stuck with whatever typo you make if you don’t notice it quickly enough.
-
You can confirm your billing history at > Dashboard > Store > Billing History and that’s where the transaction numbers are found. If you have been charged then then provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrades, you ought to be able to request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades
WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/upgrades/#refunds
Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received. -
Thanks for your response,
I am clearly new to all this, so my bad. I didn’t understand that it was to link to an already purchased domain name, thought it was the creation of one. Anyway, backtrack. All I want to do it know how to cancel potential multiple payments. If they have been made!

You mention that they do not refund new domain registrations – if this is what I have done then wouldn’t it be exempt from a refund? Perhaps if done mutiple times there’d be an exception.
Thanks for your help anyway, I’ll delete blogs and request refunds if neccessary.
p.s. the typo was just in the question on here, not the blog title thankfully! It’s been a long day :)

You did not clickthrough to read what was stated at the link:
If you notify us within two days of purchase you may cancel a domain name purchased through WordPress.com and receive a full refund. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/cancel-domain/
-
They DO refund them, but only within 48 hours. DO NOT DELETE BLOGS because if you delete them, neither you nor anyone else can ever use that URL again.

@thebassetts-
Hi there,
After looking into your account, I could not find any transactions in your account. I see that you created the site: givingitupdotorg.wordpress.com, but I do not see any transactions for the registration of domains.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
