Issues entering SRV for Lync

    Hi,
I have subscribed to Microsoft Office 365 via my internet service provider, BT. BT also owns my domain name, eventspectrum.co.uk. One of the products of Office 365 is Lync which requires a DNS record change. I entered 3 records, sip, lync, and SRV
(details provided by BT) on the WordPress domain console, and then checked to see if these had propagated. Sip and Lync are fine, but the the SRV is not broadcasting on the internet. Correct SRV records are as follows:
    Service: _sipfederationtls
    Protocol: _tcp
    Priority: 100
    Weight: 1
    Port: 5061
    Target: sipfed.online.lync.com

This website shows that they are not propagating properly:
    http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=srv%3aeventspectrum.co.uk&run=networktools

It appears that the WordPress domain console is not giving SRV record out to the internet , so when I try to log on to Lync, it is also looking up the SRV records and Lync fails to find them.

Can you please advise how to resolve this?

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

How long did you wait between entering the SRV record and trying to log on to Lync? I just checked your domain on my end, and I found the SRV record as expected:

    _sipfederationtls._tcp.eventspectrum.co.uk. 3600 IN SRV 100 1 5061 sipfed.online.lync.com.

It’s possible that it just hadn’t finished propagating when you tried to log on to Lync.

Another possibility is that there’s another SRV record that you need for Lync. I know you mentioned that BT provided the details for the records you needed, but most users with Microsoft Office 365 need a second SRV record, as well. We have details about those records here: Add Email through Office 365

If that continues to cause you trouble, please let me know and I can keep investigating the issue for you.

    Thanks Rachel,

You were right, there was a record missing. BT has now found that and provided it, I have added it and it is working properly.

    Thanks.
