Issues seeing my blog in the reader

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
The URL for my WordPress blog is https://aprettylilbookblog.wordpress.com/ . So, I don’t think my posts are showing up in the public reader when I use hashtags. This may be because, until recently, I wasn’t aware of the 15 tags and categories limit, however I believe my last few posts have been within it. I was wondering if I could have some advice about this please.
Also, I know that my blog has over 150 followers, but when I select ‘view in reader’ it says I only have 24. I’m wondering if this could be because I recently changed my URL after using emmarichardson22.wordpress.com for a while (which I have since deleted), although my content seems to have correctly transferred over to my new URL. Could the 24 people only include those who’ve followed me since the URL change?
Finally, I’m having issues with my publication dates. For instance, I started a draft for a post on June 30th but DID NOT post it publicly. I finished and posted the draft on July 1st, yet the publication date now shows June 30th, and every time I try and alter it the post is taken down and reverted back to a draft. I was wondering if this could be another reason my posts aren’t appearing on the reader?

Not sure about the first and third questions but to see how many followers you have on your blog currently take the following steps:

Head to My Sites > Select Insights at the top of the page > Scroll down to see the Followers module and that will give you your list of Followers for your site.

    This may help you further:

Others may have more insight for you to solve the issues.

    Good Luck :)

I’ve tagged the post for a moderator to look at to get further help :)

    Good Luck!

  • Hi there,

    First, WordPress.com doesn’t use hashtags. That’s Twitter :)

If you type #booknerd in the tag search in the Reader you’ll get an error. However, your posts are appearing fine for me if I search the tags without the #:

Please add tags to your posts without the #, and I’d suggest editing the existing tags to remove the #, and you shouldn’t have any further problems.

While we do block posts from appearing if you use more than 15 tags and categories combined, when you start using fewer we start showing your posts again pretty quickly, usually after a handful of posts. But there is a delay while the system decides whether you’re still over-using them or not.

As for followers, I see 155 WordPress.com followers on your site at present. Where exactly in the Reader are you seeing 24? Can you please give me a link to the exact Reader page, and if possible take a screen shot and upload it to your media library?

Last, for the publication date, what is the post URL? Did you create it in a browser or one of the mobile apps? If a browser, in the My Site or the WP-Admin editor?

Can you also please check and make sure that your site’s time zone setting at My Site ->Settings matches the time zone setting on your computer? If those two settings are not the same it can cause oddness like this.

    Thanks, @mrlodgical! :)

    @Kokkieh, thanks for the help!

I started to search for tags without the # and my posts started to appear fine for me too :).

I changed the time zone, and that seems to have worked for the publication dates and times. The follower issue also seems to have resolved itself. Thanks anyway! :)

  • Perfect :)

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
