issues uploading theme from elegantthemes.com

I am having trouble uploading my theme that I downloaded from elegantthemes.com. I was under the impression I could use themes from outside sites in wordpress, was I wrong? I saw a short video that described how to upload other themes to wordpress by clicking on a tab under the dashboard–> Themes column on the left.. why don’t I have the tab that says “install themes?” Please help!

There is no upgrade that you can purchase that will provide FTP access and the ability to upload third party themes to a free hosted WordPress.com blog. To do that you must hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.org install.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and operate on different software. You have to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.ORG install to be able to install any third party themes. Support for WordPress.ORG installs is here http://wordpress.ORG/support/
