issues with adding links to media

JustJennifer – thanks for your input. But, the issue here is that the toolbar did do the job. Very easily. And now it doesnt, nor does manipulating the html code in the editor.

JustJennifer – thanks for your input. But, the issue here is that the toolbar did do the job. Very easily. And now it doesnt, nor does manipulating the html code in the editor. Whilst this is a workaround, it is, for me at least, a more long winded approach. And as soon as I click to open in a new window, the image disappears.

Meaning same number of clicks for me whether I insert an image with a clickable link and then edit the image to make that link open in a new window/tab.
Not including the actions necessary to get an image into the Visual screen, this method of adding a link to open in a new tab requires 9 keyboard actions.

If you want to list your workflow to insert an image with a link attached to it, please do. All information is helpful for when Staff finally do look in on this thread.
cheers

OT:
If you have questions about the Gallery feature, and I think you will (like how do I hide the EXIF data that appears in the Photo Carousel that opens after clicking an image), please open a new thread so that we can discuss it there and not hijack this one.
You are right! apologies and new thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/gallery-question-about-carousel?replies=1

Until yesterday afternoon, this was my process:
Click “add media”
Click “add from URL”
Add URL
Click “open in new window”
Click add link in the editor tool bar and add linkThat was all that was necessary.
I’ve been using the add link feature for images from the toolbar for years, and yesterday it stopped functioning. And when I attempt to have any image open in a new window, it disappears and is replaced by a text link.

Hi everyone,
I’m sorry for the trouble, and thank you for letting us know about that issue! There is a bug in the WordPress software that runs on WordPress.com, and that’s causing this problem. The WordPress team is fixing that bug and then we’ll bring that fix over to WordPress.com — please hang on while we get that sorted out for you. :)

No, it isn’t working in the accustomed way. When I insert an image from a URL, and click the box for “open in a new window”, when I attempt to add a link, the image disappears and only the URL is visible.
Let me go clear my cache and such and see what happens….

No joy. My images still are disappearing. I’m using a Windows desktop with updated Firefox and no addons.

@shoreacres: I’m using windows and Chrome.
This is what I do & it works: I open a new post, click on “add media”, upload photo, insert photo in post, click on photo to select, click on “insert/edit link” in the toolbar, tick the box “open in new window” and it does just that. No textlink anymore, just the picture that can be opened in a new window.

That means that for you the problem still exists … I’m so sorry! I have no idea what you could do except wait for other people to respond.
