Issues with Bot/Spam User Signups

    We have recently been experiencing issues with mass sign ups on our website of bots and spam accounts, and it has especially been an inconvenience over the last couple of months.

    We have had a look into potential plugins to help (we currently use WordFence) but are unsure if they will clash with our current plugins or have the desired outcome. We would like to find a way to completely stop or reduce the number of fake ‘users’ creating accounts on our website.

    We would greatly appreciate any support on the best route to take from here!

    You’ve posted to the free support forums for websites hosted here at WordPress.com. Since your site is not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise. But I can get you pointed in the right direction to get help.

    If those users are under Users -> All Users in your dashboard? If so, they’ve been added because you have the “anyone can register” option checked in your Settings -> General for “Membership” – on your WordPress login screen, the link to register can be seen on your login page: https://houseofalyssasmith.com/wp-login.php

    Using WordFence would likely not prevent those signups as spam is more annoying than a security risk. Since you’re using WooCommerce, you might want to look into a registration extension that would allow you to continue allowing shoppers to create new accounts that would not rely on the WordPress “Membership” option to be enabled.
