Issues with DNS

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased the domain + domain mapping, but the site (onetrunktheatre.com) doesn’t work.

When I click on “my upgrades” it says that DNS needs to be updated. However, when I try to update my DNS it says it’s already mapped by WordPress?! I’m not sure what’s going on.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello! Since you’re mapping an existing domain, did you update your DNS servers with your registrar?

If you’ve pointed your name servers to WordPress already, please be aware that there’s usually a delay between when you set your DNS servers and while that information replicates across the internet. Most of the time that happens within 24 hours of the change. However, it some cases it can take as long as 72 hours.

I purchased domain mapping with WordPress so shouldn’t it do it automatically?!

Also when I try to map my domain it gives me this error “Sorry but onetrunktheatre.com is already mapped to a WordPress.com blog”

You’ve mapped everything from the WordPress side, but you still will need to point the domain to the WordPress DNS servers to complete the process. That part is done through your domain registrar (I think you’re using Hover.com). Check out this support doc for more information: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

I’m not using hover.com. I bought the domain through WordPress like I said previously.

That’s interesting. Looking at the domain information here: http://who.is/whois/onetrunktheatre.com it’s showing as registered via tucows (which is the parent company of Hover). I’ll just tag this post for staff to look at and sort out. They check these posts from the oldest first, so it may take a little while for a response depending on how busy they are.
