Issues with domain name & Google search
-
My primary domain is homegrownkate.com but my dashboard URL is kaleandkate.wordpress.com. Can this be changed to homegrownkate.wordpress.com?
Does this affect a Google search? Searching for homegrownkate brings up kaleandkate.com, which is connected to my blog, but not the right URL. How can I change this, as I’d like the search to bring up homegrownkate.com.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, it can be changed, and yes it will cause you to lose ranking in Google. Any time you change a URL you lose search engine juice.
How long have you had http://homegrownkate.com/ as your primary domain? If it’s relatively new, just wait and Google will eventually rank it higher.

I think anyone searching for homegrownkate.com would be confused to see the url kaleandkate.com and may not click on my website, so yes, I do need kaleandkate to become homegrownkate on the google search engine. Are you able to tell me how to do this? Or would it change automatically in a few days as and when google update their information?
This has been a steep learning curve for me, so apologies for being ignorant, but I don’t understand what you mean about losing ‘search engine juice’. I only made homegrownkate my primary domain today. If I’m going to drop down the search ranking on Google perhaps you could tell me how to avoid this or how to improve my search ranking.
Thanks very much. -
Also my original question regarding my dashboard URL which is currently kaleandkate.wordpress.com. Can this be changed to homegrownkate.wordpress.com?
Thanks again. -
It can be, and you will lose search engine ranking. Since you already have a custom domain mapped to the site, the underlying URL of the blog isn’t even visible, so I don’t know why you’d change it. If you do, you will drop in search engine rankings.

OK. I didn’t realise that others couldn’t see my kaleandkate URL in a google search engine. If that’s the case I guess I’ll leave it.
However, they can see ‘kaleandkate’ on every post. How do I remove that???? At the top of every post there is ‘leave a comment’, the post date, and then the author kaleandkate.
Wouldn’t it be easier just to delete kaleandkate altogether. I don’t want that domain anymore and it’s complicating the building of my site. -
I have one sticky post on the front page which says at the top ‘stickykaleandkate’! Please can you tell me how to remove that too. Thanks.
