Issues with Image upload and editing text?

  I am not able upload any image from my Media library – when I click the Upload image button, for example, I get random code instead of the image. This is what shows up , in the place where I want the image to upload :

  Same issue if I want to italicise my text – I get a weird ” ” at the start and end of the part of the relevant section of my post text I want to italicise.
  This has never happened before, not sure why I am seeing this today.

  That’s not “random code”, it’s perfectly regular image code. What you’re describing simply means you’re looking at the Text (=code) editor. You can toggle between “Text” and “Visual”.
