It doesn't take a mathematician to work out that I am being ignored
-
A four year old could look down the long column of figures denoting replies received and see that my post is the only one with a “1” against it, as in the only one that hasn’t received a reply.
Apart from it being quite rude to ignore anyone, if I am going to be continually treated prejudicially and totally ignored, I would like you to tell me the real reason why, please.
I know why but I’d like you to tell me, as in could you please be honest and put it in writing.
Even though I am not very good at that kind of thing, I still managed to navigate through the process of setting up the blog myself apart from one question, and that’s hardly unreasonable.
Neither do I believe it is an unreasonable question. If proper instructions had been given about the ephemera widget and the number of columns/width of the posts, I wouldn’t have had to ask a question at all.
Still I suppose you will just carry on completely ignoring me, just like you did before, week after week, until I give up.
As I’ve said before, I have already collected all previous responses and lack of them to accompany a letter of complaint, in order to have those posts removed.
Apart from sticking up for myself against bullying, which obviously hasn’t gone down very well, I haven’t actually done anything wrong.
I look forward to hearing from you – eventually.
Thanks.
Oh, and Happy New Year.

Hi there – I’m sorry for the delay. The main forums are mostly monitored by volunteers, and while WordPress.com staff does try very hard to answer all forum threads within 24 hours, we sometimes we get behind, especially over the holidays.
Direct staff support has been closed for the holidays, but will reopen tomorrow. Since you have a paid upgrade, in future you can contact staff directly here.
The Ephemera widget shows posts in certain “post formats.” You can read more about post formats here:
Post FormatsTo get a post to show up in the widget, edit the post you want to appear there and switch its post format from Standard to Video:

Hi, Thank you for responding, eventually.
I have to say this situation where I have been ignored has happened to me several times before and it’s most unpleasant.
Well there’s a half a result. It is now how I want it, except the Welcome post is sticky but it’s not sticking. Depending on how one gets there it is a different scenario. Going in via Google or the domain name the Welcome post is not sticky and it has the black featured image block above the Africa post (even though I have turned featured image off) showing in the place where the Welcome post should be, actually showing up twice and the Welcome post not showing up at all.
I don’t know if I need to change the menu?
They are both in a General category. Ought they to be in different categories?
I look forward to hearing from you as this is urgent as there people waiting for it, and I have told them it will be ready Saturday.
Thanks
Alice Harding

Hi Alice – Since you have no posts in the ‘featured’ category, it’s showing your sticky post in the featured slider area (Twenty Fourteen shows sticky posts in the featured area if there are no posts in the featured category). But your sticky post has no featured image, so the slider area is showing as blank.
Try setting the image that’s in that post as its featured image as described here:

Thank you for checking this out.
I don’t want the Welcome post to have a featured image. Does the sticky post have to have a featured image? Why then is the box there for the option to enable or disable the featured image?
Then this is a glitch in the theme that needs fixing?
If I make another post with a featured image, will that resolve the problem?
Please let me know.
-
Hi Alice – If you don’t use any sticky posts or any posts in the featured category, then there won’t be a slider area (or the six featured tiles). Otherwise, any sticky post will show up that way. You could switch to a different theme that does not have the featured area like Twenty Fourteen does. Then, you could have a sticky post that just displays like a normal post.
Where are you seeing the option to enable or disable the featured image?
-
Thanks for helping me to get this sorted out. It is very frustrating having to spend so much time on one little thing when I have so much to be getting on with, but that always tends to happen sooner or later.
The option to turn the featured image on or off by post is in the screen options at the top of the page on an edit post page, where it says: Featured image alongside a tick box.
I don’t actually want a slider area or the six featured tiles, certainly not at this point in and probably never. I’ve done what I wanted to do except for this one problem.
I just want it like it is.
I don’t want to use another template, I am very happy with this one, except the sticky post doesn’t stay sticky, or I have to have a featured image on the sticky post even though I don’t want one?
As I have the CSS upgrade, could this be fixed that way?
-
The option to turn the featured image on or off by post is in the screen options at the top of the page on an edit post page, where it says: Featured image alongside a tick box.
The Screen Options control which modules are shown on the edit post page. They don’t have anything to do with what’s displayed on the front end of your site. That’s just for organizing the way your Dashboard looks, so if you never use a certain module, you can hide it and not have it cluttering up your screen.
As I have the CSS upgrade, could this be fixed that way?
It might be possible, but I’m not sure how to hide the background only without hiding the entire post. You might ask the experts in the CSS forum to see if they have any advice:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customizationOne thing you might try is just hiding the post title part, so the full image itself appears at the top of your posts:
.slider .featured-content .entry-header, .slider-control-paging { display: none; } -
I’ve tried putting in a featured image and it is impossible. I’ve used them before as I put them on the Torcross Chapel website which I run. The whole thing on the 2014 obviously isn’t set up right.
Yet again, as has happened on each of the four blogs I have set up previously, I have wasted hours on something that ought not to have been a problem. Time that was precious for other things. Not really very good.
I found a place which was supposed to lead to the measurements of 2014 and it led to the measurements of 2013. I think that was the link you sent me.
I found the measurements but the instructions that go with the measurements are in a garbled form and it is not really possible to understand unless you already know what the answer is.
For example, it goes on and on about the width, but hardly mentions the width which is what I am having all the problems with.
Hopeless really.
It’s sad that time and again WordPress get a lot of things right but they always seem to fail badly somewhere. Why not get someone to set one up from scratch and then would highlight any glitches and omissions so they could be addressed before the theme is rolled out.
Thanks.

Sorry, I am tired now, as I’ve been trying to sort this out for most of the day, I meant the height is the problem, I can’t see what it ought to be and it looks as if it is too high but i can’t even find the measurements of what it ought to be if I have the ephemera bar.
-
Hi Alice – The featured images work best with images that are least 1038 wide in Twenty Fourteen.
Height is usually adjusted in proportion to the width. The entire slider window there is 1038px(w) by 576px (h). If you upload an image at exactly those dimensions, it should fill the window.
-
Look it’s like trying to get blood out of a stone when this happens.
I have seen the width measurement in about 10 places, completely unclear as to what it ought to be.
They are obviously doing this on purpose as it is impossible. I have wasted almost the whole of a day’s work on this and it’s nowhere nearer being fixed.
I don’t even think that is the problem as it still does the same thing even when I have put a featured image in.
Really it’s completely purpose, and there are obviously serious flaws here.
but its the

I’ve just proved what you have told me is wrong by making a picture EXACTLY 1038 x 576 and it doesn’t come out right.
You can go see it yourself.

Well thanks a bunch for the appalling service – I ought to have known according to past experience better not waste even more time by trying to get some help when I get stuck. It really is a complete waste of even more time. Thanks.
-
I have tried at least 50 different sizes, and not a single one of them works. My hands and arms are hurting and I have wasted the best part of a very long day for nothing.
The blog presently is ruined, because it won’t work with the sticky post, and it won’t work without it, so it just doesn’t work.
It’s not stealing from me, it’s stealing from the animals, because I could have done a better job for them if I hadn’t wasted so much time with inadequate instructions and effectively NO HELP or worse than NO HELP, help that has wasted a lot of my time.
I hope you had a good day Eurello, because I didn’t.

You really are taking this personally to a bizarre extent. I could help you, but frankly given that this is the way you treat people who DO try to help you, why would anyone?
-
@RC – just look at their history – nothing new with the treatment here – most of us have tried to help and had the keyboard shoved where the sun does not shine for our efforts – not worth the effort
-
I know that I’ve helped her before, and I can see that nobody’s responded to her recent threads. Guess that’s why.
Karma’s a bitch!
