Please learn to use the Support docs instead of asking questions the answers to which are already available. Links to the Support docs are all over the place:
Dashboard upper left corner: My Account > Support
or
Dashboard upper right corner: Help
or
Dashboard bottombar: Support
or
Forum header > Support
or
Forum bottombar > 24/7 SupportA search for “password” returns this:

Correct. You can password protect posts or pages:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#password-protect-a-postIf you find yourself wanting to password protect all of the blog, you may want to consider setting up a private blog. If you do that, then all of the posts you write would be behind password protection. You would need to have your readers setup at least a username only WordPress.com account an add them to the Settings > Privacy page before they could read the posts. They would have to login with a username and password to see the blog.
