It keeps talking about “a blog” I want a website trial. I don’t want a “blog”
Ideally I want to transfer the content and imagery I already have on an exisiting website into WordPress because my son-in-law has convinced me to try it because it is easy and editable as in a WORD document

We at WordPress.com use the terms ‘blog’, ‘site’ and ‘website’ more or less interchangeably. We recognize that while the majority of our users do have a ‘blog’ here, not everyone is interested in that option, and we have various features and themes that allow you to create a regular website as well.

All of our sites are websites. Some are also a blog. You don’t have to have a blog on your site at all if you don’t want one.
You can copy/paste your content from Microsoft Word into separate pages on WordPress.com and list them in a custom menu.
What kind of website are you wanting to create? If I know more about what your intentions are, I may be able to recommend some good themes or other things to help you out.

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP. i AM THINKING OF USING TWENTY TWELVE THEME. But I don’t know how to get my header logo to the top of the page where the Site Title seems to live.

It looks like you’ve added a header image correctly for this theme, but the image will be small because it’s only 685 x 174 pixels. A full-sized header would need to be 960 x 250 pixels.
If you don’t like the placement of the header image, you have a couple of options.
1) You might look for a theme that allows a custom header but has a different layout. You can browse all such themes here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/custom-header/
2) If you purchase the Custom Design or Premium upgrade on your blog, you can add custom CSS styles to your site.
