It leads me to paying. I want to try word press before I pay

How do I start a blog, choose a theme and get going without paying, to see how your site works.

Hi there,
Did you noticed you’ve received a reply from staff at https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/how-do-you-start-a-site/?
If you’re asking about how to transfer a site over here, that requires a paid plan. So does domain mapping.
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/#before-you-begin-the-transfer
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/#getting-started-with-domain-mappingHowever, if you want to start a site from scratch on WordPress:
If you start to create your site, there are one or two options for free domain names, listed under the recommended domain name. When you are asked to select a plan, there is an option to have a free plan at the top of the page.
You can also publish the site for free. When you go to make your site live, it will ask again if you want to buy a domain name or a plan, but there are options to keep the free domain name and plan.
If you want to try out features of the paid plans, that will require you to upgrade, but WordPress offers a full 30-day refund on all plans if you aren’t happy with it. You can read more about plans here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/I hope this helps!

Thanks for that, @writer0001
@roxane3313, you can just pick a free domain. I still recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, especially direct support:

Let us know if you need more help!
