item in sidebar widget not wanted

(1) despite doing all the right routines in the widget management I cannot get rid of the categories widget in the left sidebar – and when I look at the widget page it doesn’t have anything in that spot –
structure by organic themes
(2) can I change the font in the tag cloud and comments?

Try placing an empty text widget in that widget area. If the category widget is there by default then this should remove it. As for your second question you’d need the CSS upgrade to change the fonts in these areas. Saying that it is possible that you could change them using TypeKit but I’m not completely sure that will work, it might be worth trying as this option is free.
