Items missing from wpadmin dashboard
-
Hi,
Why is everything missing from the wpadmin dashboard of my site https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/ except the stats item?
I always go to screen options and check the boxes of all the other items that I want to appear on the dashboard, and they still don’t appear. I refresh the page and all the other items that I want still don’t appear. Then, after having refreshed the page, I go to screen options again just to make sure, and all the boxes for the items that I want to appear are unchecked, even though I just checked them off myself a second ago!
What’s going on and how can all the other items that I want to appear on the wpadmin dashboard be made to appear, as they should?
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@clararayrusinekklein let me make sure I understand: screen options in wp-admin do not save, correct?
Does this happen regardless of what browser you use?
-
For the moment, it seems that the screen options boxes that I want are remaining checked, but still nothing is appearing at all on the wpadmin dashboard except the stats item.
It seems to fluctuate, now the screen options boxes are remaining checked, but still nothing appears; before, the screen options boxes would become unchecked when the page was refreshed.
Either way, nothing appears except the stats item.
I always use the Google Chrome browser, but I just tried accessing the wpadmin for https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/ in Mozilla Firefox and all the items are showing up, and seem to remain there even when I refresh the page.
What can be done so that all the items show up in Chrome too? Because Chrome is the main browser that I like to use.

Could you take a screenshot of what you see, and upload that to your media library or a site like cloudup.com ?

Hi supernovia,
Here is an image of what appears inside the dashboard for my tofustirfry site: https://tofustirfry.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/screenshot.png
As you can see, the only item that appears is the stats item, when all the other items that I have checked should be appearing too.
How can this be fixed?
-
It’s worth noting that this particular problem that I’ve described in this support ticket doesn’t happen on the dashboards of any of the other sites I own, only on the dashboard of this one particular site (https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/).
-
Why is this occurring, and what can be done so that the other items appear too?
It’s odd that it would only happen on just one site and not any of my other ones.
-
I wonder whether it has something to do with the Tofu Stir Fry site being private? Can you check to make sure third party cookies are enabled in the Chrome browser:
Also disable any adblockers you may by using. Sometimes adblockers will block legitimate elements on the page although I’d have expected it to do it for all your sites.
-
Yes, it says that third party cookies are enabled in my browser. And I have other private sites where this problem isn’t occurring (at least not yet), so I don’t think the site being private is the problem.
Why do all the items appear as they should when I use Firefox but not when I access the dashboard using Chrome? That seems really odd to me.
I’m not willing to disable my adblocker; I really need it and use it constantly, it saves me a lot of annoyance and irritation and protects from some security risks.
-
Are you using the same adblocker in Firefox? I have heard of adblockers blocking elements in wp-admin before so this sounds like the most likely culprit.
You could try using the new Dashboard instead:
https://wordpress.com/posts/tofustirfry.wordpress.com
Although you may have the same problem there.
-
Yes, I am using the same adblocker in Firefox, and it doesn’t appear to be blocking any legitimate elements, as far as I know.
So what’s going on, and will the wpadmin dashboard ever display all the elements in Chrome, as it should? Can this ever be fixed? Or will I be forced to use Firefox just for this one particular blog site for some weird reason?
-
That’s really strange. I’d like to figure out why this is happening. I tried signing into your account using the Chrome web browser and I can see the black Dashboard menu on the left and also the other modules on the Stats page like Referrers, Top Posts & Pages etc. Are these the ones missing for you? Can you see the black menu on the left?
You mentioned that it happens only with this one site. I just want to confirm that everything displays correctly in Chrome when you go to this page:
https://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats
Does that pretty much sum things up?
-
When I’m on the main wpadmin dashboard page for the tofustirfry site: (https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php), the only module/item that shows up is the stats item.
I can see the black menu list on the left, that always appeared on all my sites whether public or private, I haven’t had any problems with that yet so far.
I just went to this page just to check it too: (https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats) and I noticed that a lot of items are missing from that page too, not just from the main wpadmin dashboard page (https://tofustirfry.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php), items that are checked off and that should be appearing.
To answer your question, yes, when I go to this page (https://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats), all the modules/items appear. Also, all the modules/items appear as they should on the main wpadmin dashboard page too: (https://clararayrusinekklein.wordpress.com/wp-admin/).

Can you check the console in the Chrome browser when you visit one of those problem pages to see whether there are any error messages there? You can view the console for Chrome by going to View > Developer > JavaScript Console:
-
The other wpadmin dashboard items seem to be showing up as they should in Chrome (for now at least).
I went into my adblocker’s filters and found that somehow in the filters there were several lines that mentioned my tofustirfry site, so I deleted those mentions and then the other items appeared (for now). I don’t know why that was happening, I had never intentionally blocked those items myself, they were blocked without my knowing it. I don’t know how that happened.
I hope that all the items on the wpadmin dashboard stay as they should and that this doesn’t somehow happen again in the future, or maybe happen on some other site too.
There still seem to be several errors showing up when I access the console but since those don’t seem to be affecting anything that I need or use right now, I don’t really care.
Also, I found an easier way to get to the JavaScript error console by reading a Google article online, since I didn’t know how to get to View and I didn’t see or seem to have anything called View or Developer anywhere: It’s just to press Ctrl Shift J all together at the same time. That shortcut might help people in the future, who are having similar things going on.
-
Also it still seems really odd that although I use the same adblocker in both Firefox and Chrome, that this was only happening in Chrome, and only on this one particular site (tofustirfry), and that when I accessed the same site in Firefox (with the same adblocker) everything showed up exactly.
?
Any ideas?

Well done on figuring it out!
I’m not sure why the adblocker was only causing problem in the Chrome browser. How do you add things to the filter? Maybe something was clicked accidentally at one point – I’m not sure how easy that is to do – and your Tofustirfry site was added then.
