It’s confusing on how to buy credits for domain forwarding…
-
Ok. I would like to use the domain forwarding feature for my blog http://agnosticatheism.wordpress.com. I already have a domain registered which I currently have forwarded to the site (via the registrar). However, I would like it to be integrated in with WordPress.
When I try to do this, it gives me the message that I have not yet changed the DNS and tells me I also need 10 credits. I do not want to change my DNS until I figure out how to buy the 10 Credits. The problem is, I do not know how to purchase the 10 credits. The only way I see to do it is to give myself a gift for 10 credits (which I hope I can do).
The only other thing I can figure out is that it wants me to change my DNS first then it will offer me the option to buy the 10 Credits. I guess I will try this next :)

Thanks. Did that and it worked! :) I think maybe a message to that effect should be added.

Mark,
Once last question and we can close this thread.
The http://agnosticatheism.com works. However http://www.agnosticatheism.com does not. Did I do something wrong or is that something I need to take up with my registrar?

Mark can answer for sure, but the www records are made to redirect to the main domain here at wordpress.com and hense, why the www goes to http://agnosticatheism.com/ for you. It is on all domains and I don’t think there is a workaround, as it is the way they have the server DNS setup here.

If I click the www link I go to http://agnosticatheism.com/
Try closing and re-opening the browser? We don’t support the www part of a url, but it does no harm and the non-www url will stil go to the right place.

My www… goes to a generic directnic (my registrar) page but no www goes to my wordpress blog. I’ll give it some time to see if it’s a matter of domain propagation. Thanks for your support guys. WordPress is awesome!

I think you misunderstood Mark. WordPress.com opted not to have the “www” in urls however, if people use it anyway the url will be redirected correctly. I just tried both with the “www” and without it and had no problem reaching your blog using either one.

I think they are saying that right now, http://www.agnosticatheism.com/ they are getting their domain registrar page because it hasn’t provagated to all the web DNS servers. It happened when I was moving my domains around last time where the www linked would not get me to wordpress.com for a couple of hours while the other domain name without it worked.

So using this feature you lose the ability to comment with your wordpress user account? Not sure I like that. May have to switch it back.

Going to revert this back to the way it was and really since directnic (my registrar) had free forwarding, there’s no need to keep using it just as a forwarding feature. I liked the fact that the domain became a part of the URL of the posts.
I guess this feature is great if you use if from day 1 and your users are not used to using their WordPress accounts to comment. Now that they’re use to that, they’ll hate having to type in Name, URL, email etc.
Is there I way I could get the 10 credits back in my acct? Maybe I’ll try another one of the fun features later.
Thanks,

:) The way directnic does the forwarding (using a frame), I can use http://www.agnosticatheism.com and still have the “logged in” features of being logged into WordPress (I just switched it back).
Is there a plan to allow the user to used “logged in” features when using this option with WordPress? I would love to have the url in the domains of all my posts but also want to make comments as my WordPress self.
Thanks,

Huh, no, you don’t lose the ability to comment with your WP account; it all works just fine. I have no idea why you’d think otherwise. You can see my blog for a billion examples.

All that happens is that your blog will have your new URL and the login and password are the same. You are still on the wordpress.com system, just the new URL.
