It’s not letting me add links!!
-
I’m trying to add a new entry today and I’m having trouble adding links to my post. Normally what I do is I’ll highlight the text that I want to turn into a link, click the “link” icon, then fill out the web address I want to direct the reader to. Well that’s not working today. When I click the link icon, nothing happens!!
I’m sure that I could add links by just typing in the direct address, but I don’t like the look of that in my posts.
Has this happened for anyone else? How do I fix this?

You’ll find your answer on this thread:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-link?replies=62Friendly advice: before asking a support question or asking if other people have the same problem, browse through the forums or do a quick search :-)

What browser you’re using? I use IE 7(Internet Explorer) previously and link button didn’t work. When you upgrade to IE 8 or IE 9, everything works fine. Trust me.
-
oh sorry. I tried searching but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I must have missed that topic somehow.
I don’t think it’s my internet browser since it always used to work and then today it stopped working.
I ended up switching over to html and linking things up that way. It’s a bit of a pain, but it works.
-
It stopped working because wordpress.COM updated everything here to a pre-beta version of the upcoming wordpress software. Pre-beta in case you are wondering would typically be considered to mean, not close to ready for a shake-down cruise.

IE 8 is the best version of browser. If IE9 available, should I download it? For now, Microsoft doesn’t allow Windows XP to download IE9.
-
Use 8. No sense upgrading to Windows 7 just to get IE9 (that is if you can upgrade to W7).
Or, download and install Firefox. 8 is good, but Firefox is more secure and there are virtually no issues with FF and wordpress.
-
Sometimes, it freeze and loading very slow when I access WordPress website using Internet Explorer 8. Do you know why it has that problems?
-
If you are still experiencing problem with IE8 then why don’t your download Firefox and try using it? http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
Also note that if you compose your post in the Visual editor and then switch to the HTML editor then you can enter any link manually. All you have to do is select (highlight) the anchor text for the link ,and then click the Link icon in the HTML editor and enter the URL into the pop-up box.

Take a look when you are in the editor and see if IE8 compatibility view is turned on. If it is, turn it off. It used to be that compatibility view was needed at wordpress.COM, but from what I hear now it is not.

Turn compatibility view off and see what happens. If that doesn’t do the trick, you might clear your browser cache and cookies (after turning compatibility view off) and then restart the browser and try again.
If that doesn’t work, then at least for now, use Firefox to work with wordpress.
