Iv’e been through a nightmare trying to transfer a site to WordPress.Com

Because I know zip about transferring a website, I ask WordPress.Com to transfer my entire deafwhale.com domain with active web pages to WordPress. They took my money and fought me afterwards, saying that they could not transfer deafwhale.com site to their servers. They insisted that I must transfer the site.

We fought for about 10 days until I was worn out. Then I contacted PayPal and requested their help in getting a refund. Another 4-5 days of fighting and WordPress still refused to refund my money.

Than a day or so later, I was told to check ‘deafwhale.com’ on the following page http://whois.domaintools.com/deafwhale.com

I was shocked to discover that deafwhale.com was already transfer to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

In other words, my site was already setting on WordPress.Com servers at the same time WordPress.com was insisting that I must move the site to their servers. What kind of BS is this?

    Here’s what I found:

I am SHOCK by all the problems WordPress sent me through!!!!!!

Then I found this little tidbit:
You can’t get there from here (site_id mismatch error).

This happens when an external blog (a self-hosted blog using the Jetpack plugin) is pointed to WordPress.com by DNS.

If you are trying to migrate away from WordPress.com, please update your DNS to point the domain to your own server.

Otherwise please contact WordPress.com support and explain what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened.

This is all shocking to me. WordPress are suppose to be the experts. But they did not even bother to check whois to find out that my website was already on their servers!

My God, what a mess! WordPress.com needs to get their act together before they run a lot more customers off as they have run my off!

Chairman of the Deafwhale Society, a 60-year-old nonprofit group with over 9,000 volunteers,

Now I would like to know how do I get WordPress.com to transfer deafwhale.com to STABLE HOST servers?

  • Hi, we’ve followed up by private email, so we’ll go ahead and close this out.
