This thread is tagged for a Staff follow-up re: the Premium upgrade that includes a No-Ads upgrade in the bundle.
To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising. http://en.wordpress.com/about-these-ads/
Any other ads appearing to you are not placed by WordPress.com. If you see any other ads then you could have an issue on your browser or computer. Unfortunately they can be being placed there by software on your own computer or your visitors’. Such ads are sometimes caused by malware or a virus, but more often it is due to a browser extension or adware found in some games and shopping sites and toolbars that may have been installed in a browser.
These sites have further explanation and suggestions for eliminating the ads:

Hi,
Are you referring to this widget on your Dashboard by chance?
Like Timethief, I don’t see another ad on your site either.
The Dashboard widget shown above is part of a partnership we have with The Pew Charitable Trusts surrounding the Midterm Elections. You can read more about it here:
If you do not want to see that on your Dashboard, you can disable it under the Screen Options menu described here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/
You will want to uncheck “2014 Midterm Election”.

timethief, you should actually read what I wrote. Nobody said anything about ads on my site.
jeremey, thank you for reading my complaint and telling me how to fix it. I certainly will uncheck anything advertising
- anything
to make sleepers think the USA is still operational, and their votes count a whit.
