Janky and Not Working Stuff

    It seems with the new update to the site, a lot of the functionality I’m use to just doesn’t work anymore.

    Background colors on blocks doesn’t seem to change.
    Cover block doesn’t work.
    The editing page jumps around like crazy if you click out of a block.

    Not sure what happened. But I guess it’s as good an excuse as any to use this site less.

    Also this isn’t meant to be whiny complaints. Just a heads up that there are functionality issues with the site.

    Thank you for your feedback. I’d like to address these each in turn so that we can make sure they get addressed in case this is a larger issue.

    Background colors on blocks doesn’t seem to change.

    I noticed you are using background colors on your homepage (the heading blocks) are you trying to change these to a different color? Or are you working on another page or post? what happens if you try to change the colors? You are getting an error message of some kind or do they just switch back somehow?

    Cover block doesn’t work.

    Doesn’t work how? Can you tell me a bit more about what you are trying to set up and the trouble you are running into? We’d like to take a closer look.

    The editing page jumps around like crazy if you click out of a block.

    Can you describe that issue in a bit more detail? Does this happen only on a specific page or post, or when working only on a specific block? Or does this happen with any page or post you work on in your site?

    Are you able to create a screen recording so we can see this ‘jumping’ behaviour in action? I know this kind of thing can be difficult to explain so that will help us to spot it more easily.

    The Homepage is unaffected. This is all trying to make a new post (https://theomnitoad.wordpress.com/2021/04/05/hamster-wheel). I set the section to have a background color in the editor. Then it just doesn’t in the published page. No error message. It just doesn’t happen. Both in headers and paragraphs.

    Let’s see, in the editor, the fields are all aligned with center style justification, but appear on the lower right hand side of the field. And then again, it just doesn’t apply to the published page.

    Here’s a typical scenario. I’m typing in a paragraph block, but want to edit an earlier part, so I click, but miss the block by a bit, so the whole screen jumps to the bottom of the editing page, like one of those # section link clicks. So I have to rescroll the page back up to where I was working, but, depending on how/where I click to move the cursor back into the text, it may jump back to the bottom again. I really haven’t catalogued the behavior because I just get frustrated and hit the up arrow until the cursor is where I want it.

    I see what you mean! To do some testing, I copied that post into a new draft titled “Hamster Wheel Draft” that I’ll use to do some testing:

    I think we may have stumbled upon a bug! If I use the color options offered, the color doesn’t stick, but if I click through to “custom color” and set something not one of the offered colors, it works. It doesn’t seem to be theme specific either.

    I’m going to do more investigation here and report this to our development team and hopefully they’ll be able to get this fixed. Feel free to delete that draft as well as I’ve been able to replicate the behavior on my own test site.

    I haven’t been able to replicate the editor jumping around issue yet, but will keep testing that as well. I would try closing and restarting your browser to make sure.
