  my word press site is http://www.greenwellfoundation.wordpress.com
  I am a non profit and I host this blog for board members so it is private.
  I host the site using space on my own website/web host

  I have been inviting board members but they have this problem;
  board members would like to add email notification to see that a new post has been added. Two board members did set this up and can not remember how they did it. The rest of the board members can not figure it out. I tried “reader” tab on their accounts but I can not see email notification settings.

  Can you try adding a Follow Blog widget to your sidebar?

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

  If they’ve been added as a viewer on the WordPress.com site, they should see a “Follow” button on your sidebar after you’ve added the widget. Once they click that button, they will receive new posts via email.
