This may help some having difficulties activating jetpack on a self hosted server – ie not using wordpress.com to host your site.
I am running WordPress 3.3
I installed jetpack and followed big button the link on right to connect to WordPress.com
It kept bring me back to my site home page. In other words – nothing happened.
On this forum I found different bits of info so I did following:
Browser – Mozilla Firefox
Cleared my browser cache and history
Closed browser and started again by loggin back into my site
Deactivated ALL plugins except JetPack
Hit the Big connect to WordPress button on JetPack
It tried to connect and I got this error
“Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.
Operation timed out after 15000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received”
I clicked the connect button again – I guessed, as it was a timeout error it was worth the try!
BINGO! It worked.JetPack is good… worth all this messing about.
Hope this works for others.
Oh yes… when done switch your other plugins back on!
