Jetpack 404 error with internet explorer
-
Hi, I’ve intalled jetpack on my wordpress.org site and then to use it I needed to have a wordpress.com account (which I already had) so I linked them. I enabled a number of the jetpack features which automatically added a new post comment dialog at the bottom of my posts. Everything seemed to work fine except in InternetExplorer, when a person presses post comment button, the whole dialog is replaced with a 404 error. It works fine in Chrome, Safari & Firefox – Anyone have any Ideas? I’ve had to deactivate jetpack until I fix the problem.

Hello!
Can you give me more information?
1. What version of IE are you using?
2. What version of Windows are you using?
3. Are you using the most up-to-date version of Jetpack? The most recent version is 2.2.2 – you can check on your site by going to Plugins -> Installed Plugins and finding Jetpack in the list. Update to the most recent version if you’re not using 2.2.2.Once I get that information, I’ll be better able to look into this for you. One thing you will need to do before we can look at it is to reactivate the plugin and make sure Comments are activated, otherwise we won’t be able to troubleshoot what is going wrong with that module.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi Nathan!
We tried to replicate the problem on our own IE9/Windows 7 machine and we weren’t able to replicate the error. However, there’s a few more things we can have you do that might help.
1. Try to enter a comment using IE and take a screenshot of the 404 page you get showing the full URL of that page. Upload the screenshot to your site’s media library and provide us with the direct URL to that image. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the full URL from the address bar on that 404 page to this thread.
2. How do you enter a comment: are you logged in to one of the services (WordPress.com, Twitter or Facebook, or the site itself), or did you just enter your name and email? If you could try various options and let us know if it’s one or all of the options that causes the 404 error.
3. Are you using any other plugins outside of the Jetpack plugin? If so, can you let us know which ones you’re using?
Thanks for your help with this. Let me know if you have any questions.

OK, now I’m completely confused… I’ve tried the same thing on other IE9 Windows 7 machines and the problem only occurs on two of them.
1. The url for the screenshot of the error is http://www.storybook.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/error-message.jpg
2. I’ve tried entering a comment by just entering an email address & get the error, same thing happens with wordpress login.
Twitter is fine though and Facebook just never connected…3. I’ve tried disabling some of my plugins. The ones I still use are:
Akismet – although the account says suspended and I’m not sure why (I’ve emailed a support query)
Contact Form 7 – but not using yet.
Google Analytics
Max Buttons (not on pages affected)
Royal Slider (not on pages affected)
New Royal Slider (not on pages affected)
Simple local Avatars
Wordpress SEOAnd the Theme I’m using is Touchfolio….
I wondered if it is happening at work because we have a static IP address but one of the computers here with the same specs seems to work fine…
Cheers

It sounds like it might be something on your work network…but I’m having our developers take a closer look too to see what would be causing that.
I’ll get back to you once I have more information. Thanks again for the help.

Hi there!
Our developers tested this problem and were unable to replicate it, so it does sound like an issue on those computers that was causing the 404 error. It could be anti virus or anti malware software with aggressive security settings or something else in the browser settings.
I just wanted to let you know that it is working properly in all browsers, so you shouldn’t worry about having it enabled going forward.
Let me know if you have any questions!
